Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon N0.3), September, 2024
The Typhoon Yagi, which entered Viet Nam’s East Sea, on Tuesday 3th Sept, has rapidly strengthened, becoming one of the most powerful typhoons in the region over the past decade. Yagi intensified into a super typhoon around noon on Thursday 5th Sept, with maximum sustained winds reaching 201 kph, threatening areas from Ninh Binh to Quang Ninh in northern Vietnam. This caused grave damages to the people’s lives, crops, housing and environment. With great effort of the Government, INGO community in Vietnam is also do emergency response by Cash, Non Food Iterm and Housing support.
Disaster Management Working Group members also joined the Rapid Assessment Team together with MARD Team, UN Agencies and other Stakeholders to Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Yen Bai, Lao Cai province. The reports/findings will be shared soonest on 17th September at Debriefing meeting at UN ONE HOUSE.

This typhoon swept through the central provinces of Vietnam on 29, 30 September 2009. This is strong desaster
caused grave damages to the people’s lives, crops, housing and environment.
